for .40 S&W, HS6 powder and 175gr, cast lead bullets.  Shooting these from a Sig P239.

Does anyone have a good, accurate load already developed?

Would if I could but I don't load for 40 do you have a good reloading manual or two?

When I started casting I had a hard time finding load data also.  I got the lee casting book it has good data, I will look for a recipe.  I also searched John Taffin and caliber, I was looking for 10mm loads, and I found a bunch of good data.

Load Data from the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook.

They have two different 175 grain cast bullets.  Both use 7.0 grains of HS-6 at a starting point, 8.2 max for bullet shape and 8.4 for the other.

I don't have a .40 so no experience with either of these loads.  I really recommend this book if you are casting bullets, or loading cast bullet.

$20 on Amazon most, and best load data I have found, for cast bullets.

Thought I'd update this, since I finally got a break in the weather and got out to shoot some yesterday.

It turns out the label on the HS-6 powder actually gives a load for .40 S&W, among a couple of other applications.  7.4 grains.

I loaded up seven rounds each from 7.0 to 8.0 grains, in .2 grain increments.

The best groups were with 7.6 grains followed very closely by 7.4 grains.  The 7.6gr rounds formed a little tighter group, but tended to hit right of the bull.  The 7.4gr round group was .2" more spread out top to bottom, but were more consistent in hitting near the bull.

I think I'm going to stick to the 7.4gr load, since it seems to shoot closer to POA.

Thanks, but I've got a few thousand.  .40 & 9mm are the most common calibers left at the range, and I will confess to being a brass rat.  I just sold close to 2000 9mm, and I've probably got twice that left.  And I don't even own a 9mm pistol.
